The Freedom Tastes Better Challenge Is Back!
It's back. The New Year comes every 364 days and here it is again. With it comes resolutions and goals--new ones and some familiar recurring ones.
I've seen many articles, status updates, invitations to join fitness groups over the last several days. I know the spectrum of where people land on this particular subject spreads wide. Some want to lose a few pounds after the holidays so they can fit in those pants in their dresser. Some are haunted by the hold food has over them. Others struggle to eat enough.
So, this invitation is a little different. The goal is not for you to lose weight (or gain it, if that's what you need to do). It's not for you to be a healthier version of yourself.
Will those things happen? They just might, but that's not the goal.
So, what is the goal?
I've struggled for a long time with food, with my body image, with extra weight, with the fear of not being enough. It's followed me for as long as I can remember. I've gained and lost HUNDREDS of pounds over the course of my 42 short years on this planet.
Along the way, I discovered something. What I long for at the end of the day isn't a smaller pant size or comments about how great I look or the capacity to say "no" to certain foods that seem to call my name.
What I long for is freedom.
Freedom from society's rules about what size I should or shouldn't be. Freedom from food having any control or power over me. Freedom from the numbers on the scale. Freedom from the image I dislike in the mirror. Freedom to embrace the person God created me to be in the shape He formed my body. Freedom from comparison as I look at the journey of others. Freedom from the lies I've believed about myself over time.
Because Freedom Tastes Better.
It tastes better than anything else.
Through the next 31-days, our subscribers will be receiving devotions straight to their inbox each morning. These devotions will help you on your journey toward freedom. If you've taken this journey with us before, you'll see some familiar posts as well as some new ones.
As a follower of Christ, I want to be mastered by nothing other than the Holy Spirit. It's difficult. I also want to believe I am who He says I am. Nothing more. Nothing less. Nothing else.
Consider this your invitation to the 31-day Freedom Tastes Better Challenge.
I'd love nothing more than to journey with you toward the freedom that is already ours. Christ died and rose again so we could be free. In every way.
So, here's how it works:
1. Choose your program. This isn’t a food program or a weight loss plan. You will need to determine your boundaries. What do you need to surrender? Is it sugar and carbs? Fatty foods? Restaurants? The scale? What will you give up this month so you can be a healthier you? Set your own boundaries.
2. Choose your partner(s). You cannot do this alone! We all need accountability when we take steps like this. Knowing you have to relay what you’ve done to someone leads to better choices every time. Knowing someone else can pray you through those dark moments helps every time too. Who will be on your team? Who will kick your tail when you want that extra cookie or a sugary coffee with extra whip? Who will you tell if you keep stepping on the scale? Who will remind you of your value and worth when you fail or doubt? If they’ll give you grief about stepping out of bounds and pick you up afterwards, invite them to join you!
3. Choose to participate daily. When you subscribe to the newsletter, you will receive a daily devotional in your inbox each morning for the month of January. This issue is not only a physical one, it’s a mental, emotional, and spiritual one as well. Food can be an idol--either eating too much or too little. Body image can be an idol. If it has a hold on you, God can set you free.
I'll be joining you on this 31-day journey. I need it just as much as anyone. My prayer for all of us is to find Jesus in the midst of it all. To hear His voice setting the boundaries and to follow Him every step of the way.
Your freedom matters. It'll change everything.
The Freedom Tastes Better Challenge will begin on January 1, 2017. To receive the daily devotions, subscriber here. Watch for fun giveaways and extras to help you on your journey.
